Wir Malen

Shortfilm, 2012 San Diego, CA

In a room where the 3 painters continuously paint
the same walls over and over again, the Newcomer
finds himself challenging his very existence as
well as trying to realize the world he has just woken
up in.

Wir Malen is german for We Paint, it is finding meaning
where there is none. The story begins with a
Newcomer waking up in a small room filled with
three painters. The painters spend everyday all
day painting the walls of the room over and over
again in different colors. Once a coat of paint is
finished the empty paint buckets are returned to a
mysterious machine in the center of the room and
a new color is re-dispensed.

When the Newcomer first enters the room he is
confused and alienated. At first the painters are
unresponsive to his comments and actions, thus his
very purpose of life is questioned. Troubled with a
language barrier he asks his most important questions
through painting symbols and images into the
walls. Through the mindless abyss of the room, the
intruder discovers art and uses this as his weapon
to find meaning.
